Real Estate Picture In Jersey City

There are many reasons why you might be thinking about moving to Jersey City in the state of New Jersey, work opportunities and the proximity of the city to the capital of the western world (New York City) being a couple of them. However, just what can you expect to find when it comes to your real estate options in Jersey City? Is the housing market here similar to what you could expect in Willowdale real estate, or will you be unable to find a piece of property which truly suits your needs? Let's take a look at the different pieces that make up the real estate picture in Jersey City.

First of all, and make no mistake about the importance of its impact, you need to keep in mind that Jersey City is the second most populated city in the most densely populated state in all of America. Somehow, the state has preserved a lot of green space in many different areas (including outlying suburbs of many cities, where itinerant black bears can still be found). Jersey City, however, is going to look very strange to people used to Halton Hills real estate.

That large backyard you may take for granted in many locations around New Jersey commands a premium price in this area, for example. With so many people living so closely together, the ability to find properties with personal green space is fairly limited. Large houses are common, but large yards are not. If you can find plots similar to those located in the Toronto neighborhood of Bennington Heights you will be lucky, and don't expect the prices to compare!

Next, keep in mind that Jersey City is right at the heart of the most developed areas of the United States. It lies directly across the Hudson from Manhattan, where many of the residents (up to a quarter of the working population!) have their jobs. That means the city has been in development much longer than any London Ontario real estate, with all the connotations that history entails.

One of the major themes of that history is a dense urban core, which has seen better days. Fortunately for home buyers looking in the Jersey City area, the entire center is undergoing a rejuvenation process one neighborhood at a time. Thanks to the vision of many different developers, there is now a diverse array of fine housing types to buy. Toronto condo owners are familiar with the success of downtown development efforts, efforts which are now paying off for many families in the Jersey City area.

When it comes to the real estate picture in Jersey City, major urban development is the key feature. In other articles on this site, we will take a look at the different neighborhoods in the area and how they have been impacted by this theme.
