Jersey City Public Schools district consists of 30 schools in total, and is one of New Jersey's 31 Abbott Districts. 6 high schools, 3 middle schools, 21 PK/K to grade 8 schools, and 8 other schools with grade ranges from PK-2 to PK-5 offer quality education for willing students. These schools include Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School, Academy 1 Middle School, Charles J. Watters Public School, Alexander D. Sullivan Public School, and Anthone J. Infante Public School.
Jersey City is also home to 43 different private schools of different grade ranges and focuses. Hudson Catholic Regional High School, established in 1964 for young men of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, serves around 550 young men and is run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. St. Peter's Preparatory High School was founded in 1872 by the Society of Jesus. It is the only Jesuit high school in New Jersey. Other private high schools in Jersey City include the Academy of St. Aloysius, Kenmare High School for Women, St. Anthony High School (two-time national champions in Boys High School Basketball), Saint Aloysius High School, Saint Dominic Academy and St. Mary High School. In post-secondary education, Jersey City is home to New Jersey City University (NJCU) as well as Saint Peter's College. Both facilities are located in the West Side district of the city, and offer exceptional programs for students seeking a higher education after graduating from high school. The West Side district is also home to Hudson County Community College, which is located in Journal Square.
